While we hold ourselves to high standards for design and style, our standards for safety are even higher. Nursery Works is proud to be a part of The MDB Family, which has been producing nursery furniture products since 1989. Each Nursery Works crib goes through the rigorous third party testing process established by our parent company, which exceeds ASTM/CPSC standards.

Safe and Renewable Materials

With each product Nursery Works strives to explore new materials and processes, including non-toxic, recyclable, acrylic; CNC-milled, solid radiata pine; 24k gold-plated aluminum; and laser-cut, powder coated stainless steel. Our white oak and black walnut are sourced from sustainably-managed, American forests.

When construction requires the use of medium density fiberboard (MDF), Nursery Works is Carb II Compliant. While others may use fiberboard that leaks anywhere from 9 mg to 39 mg per 100 grams of board, Nursery Works only uses MDF which releases less than 0.5 mg per liter.

Rocker legs are made of ash hardwood and upholstered with 100% cotton or a poly-cotton woven blend. The foam used is Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDEs) free.

Finish, Lacquers, Glues and Dyes

Nursery Works uses low-VOC finishes, lacquers and glues. The dyes we use are always formaldehyde-free and compliant to U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission standards. Our products are tested to governmental standards on a quarterly basis and are air-chamber tested to examine and eliminate toxic materials.

  • Our products are all formaldehyde and lead safe; the formaldehyde level for all of our furniture is undetectable.
  • Paint is considered safe when it has toxic materials under 300 parts per million (ppm). In order for a company to claim low toxicity, it must have no more than 90 ppm. Nursery Works products come in at less than 10ppm.
  • We perform annual paint tests in order to maintain consistent quality, exceeding U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission regulations.

Testing and Quality Control

  • All our products are sent to a 3rd party CPSC-certified lab for testing to ensure compliance with ASTM standards.
  • After third party testing, 25% of our full-size crib models are tested quarterly to adhere to all guidelines.
  • We perform annual paint tests in order to maintain consistent quality, exceeding U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission regulations.
  • We have created our own rigorous quality control program to stay ahead of industry standards. A quality control team at our production site individually checks and hand packs each piece to ensure the highest quality of craftsmanship before products leave our factory doors. Items are inspected and assembled again by another team upon arrival in the US.

Full-Size Cribs

  • Mattress supports are ventilated to ensure safe sleep and prevent the growth of mold and mildew.
  • Metal inserts with lock washers and self-locking nuts are used, instead of wood screws.
  • After third party testing, 25% of our full-size crib models are tested quarterly to adhere to all guidelines.

Tips

  • Stop using our full-size cribs when your child begins to climb or reaches 35"
  • Crib mattresses shouldfit snugly with thickness not exceeding 6".

California Proposition 65

What is the California Proposition 65 Warning?
California Proposition 65 requires warning labels on products that could possibly contain any of the more than 800 chemicals or materials that the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) considers harmful. This list includes a multitude of naturally occurring and synthetic chemicals. The listed chemicals may also be used in manufacturing and construction, or they may be byproducts of chemical processes.

Since there is always a possibility that our products or packaging materials could have been exposed to some of the hundreds of materials listed in Prop 65, we must include this warning below on select products:

"WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including Antimony trioxide, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer, and Ethylene glycol, which is known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov."

The products that require this warning are pads, mattresses, and products that come with cushions or pad. In the case of cradles, mini cribs, and changers, the warning is regarding the included pad, and not the furniture. We can assure you that all our cribs and wooden furniture are tested to meet all required CPSC and ASTM standards, which include testing for formaldehyde, phthalates, heavy metals such as lead, and other at-risk substances.

As a family company committed to safety, we test all our products on a yearly basis to ensure that they are safe to use.

Our products meet current CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) standards and CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act) 101 and 108. These acts regulate lead and phthalate levels in children’s products, and all our products are lead and phthalate safe.

We are compliant with the most current voluntary standards and federal regulations, and even have our own safety metrics that go well beyond State and Federal requirements. Please rest assured that at NurseryWorks, we will always continue to strive for the very best in quality and safety for your family.
