WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE

Drop-Side Crib vs. the new
Standard of Static-Side Crib

A Drop-Side Crib allows Parents to easily reach Baby
through the use of a moving side rail.

A Static-Side Crib is fixed and does not move up or down,
ensuring safety for Baby.

INSTALLING THE MDB SAFETY KIT

What to Know about your crib at home

Overview

The MDB Safety Kit as provided by CPSC can be attached
to the crib to prevent the drop side from moving up
and down.

Installing a MDB Safety Kit will make any crib in
functioning condition into a CPSC approved safe sleep
space for baby.

Properly Working Crib

If your crib is functioning properly, you can continue
to use the product. The installation of the MDB Safety
Kit will create a static-side crib.

Poorly Maintained Crib

Improper use, abuse over time, or inaccurate assembly of
the drop-side crib has caused problems related to hardware
breakage and failure. Installation of a MDB Safety Kit will
prevent movement of the side railing, creating
a static-side crib.

Broken Crib

If your crib is already damaged, a MDB Safety Kit is not
the solution. Parents should find an alternative safe sleep
environment for their baby immediately until a replacement
crib is purchased.

Important Reminder

MDB, JPMA and the CPSC remind parents not to use any crib with missing, broken, or loose parts.

Make sure to tighten hardware from time to time to keep the crib sturdy. When using a drop-side crib, parents should check to make sure the drop side or any other moving part operates smoothly.

Always check all sides and corners of the crib for disengagement.

Disengagements can create a gap and entrap a child. In addition, do not try to repair any side of the crib, especially with duct tape, wire or rope.
